Positive Discipline for Parents
Positive Discipline (PD) is a discipline model used by schools, and in parenting, that focuses on the positive points of behaviour. It is based on the idea that there are no bad children, just good and bad behaviours. Good behaviour can be taught and reinforced while weaning the bad behaviours without hurting the child verbally or physically. People engaging in positive discipline are not ignoring problems. Rather, they are actively involved in helping their child learn how to handle situations more appropriately while remaining calm, friendly and respectful to the children themselves. Positive discipline includes a number of different techniques that, used in combination, can lead to a more effective way for parents to manage their kids behaviour, or for teachers to manage groups of students. With officially certified PD expert, we offer two PD classes:
Positive Discipline Parenting Classes – are taught by Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educators. Parents will learn to avoid power struggles while helping their children to learn self-control and self-discipline.
Positive Discipline in the Classroom – is designed to create a respectful school climate through social emotional learning, character education and effective discipline. It provides simple and clear lesson plans that you can integrate into your daily curriculum. The program provides the tools to develop effective class meetings and create a climate of mutual respect through teaching communication, cooperation, problem-solving, and self-regulatory skills.
Tuition: 1.5 hours/week * 10 times = 300€ or 250€ for WEM parents
Starting from January 2020 (no classes on school holidays)
Long Term Benefits
Stronger Relationships
One of the most important things that positive parenting can bring about is a stronger parent-child connection. Setting limits and reinforcing expectations through loving guidance helps children to focus on improving behaviour instead of staying angry with you.
Better Understanding of Feelings
Children will respond positively if you first tell them how you feel, beginning discipline with reaffirming the connection. This will help your child understand how you feel and will most likely not keep repeating that behaviour.
Reduces Power Struggles and Misbehavior
Punishing children can make them feel terrible about themselves and this can make them act worse. It can also undermine the relationship with your child which could eventually end up in power struggle fights. As a parent, you should not hesitate to set limits for your child, limits are important for guiding your child but these limits should be set empathy.
